I enjoyed this cigar during the Cigars Under the Stars event hosted by C.A.R.T (California Association of Retail Tobacconists) and Pro Cigars at the Astor Classics Event Center. The purpose of the event was to raise funds and awareness in the fight against California's Prop 86. If Prop 86 passes through on the November ballot, not only will it raise taxes on a carton of cigarettes, it will raise the taxes on cigars, pipe tobacco and smokeless tobacco another 88%, to a total of 135% in taxes. Now whether you agree with smoking or not, isn't the point here. The point is tobacco is a legal product and yet, we smokers are being punished by having to pay more money in taxes? What's next?! Anyway, I could get carried away with this subject; however, this is meant to be a review on the Leon Jimenez #3 cigar. I enjoyed this cigar with a few glasses of Fonseca Port, which is an excellent port, I highly recommend it.
The Leon Jiminez #3, I have never had one before so, being my first time I was pleasantly surprise. Such a nice smooth, medium taste with hints of toast and coffee. I smoked the cigar about 3/4 of the way before dinner and after filling my gut with a 5 star meal consisting of a fresh European style salad, smoked salmon, hand carved smoked beef brisket, oven roasted potatoes, molasses baked beans (I LOVE baked beans) and fresh baked rolls with butter, I poured my self another glass of Fonseca Port to finish off this excellent cigar. In my humble opinion, I truly recommend the Leon Jiminez #3 and the only problem I seem to have with it was keeping it lit and having an uneven burn. Which of course annoys me but, since I really enjoyed the taste of the cigar it didn't bother me too much. If you are familiar with this cigar and/or have had the same issues with it as I have please send me your comments.
I have to also mention how spetacular the Astor Classic Event Center is, if you ever get the chance to attend their facilities, DO IT!!!! The museum houses not only 270 of the worlds most beatiful classic cars, it includes restored and working antique radio, phones and televisions, including the very first television.
'nuff said.
