Zippo Blu

I own a Zippo lighter, well... That is not true. I own two, one with the regular Zippo fluid insert and the other with the Blazer's Z-Plus butane insert. I carry my regular Zippo with me wherever I go because, it never fails me. I know… A true cigar smoker should never light a premium cigar with a Zippo fluid lighter. But, when I am out “roughing it’ per say I usually smoke the cheaper cigars, good cigars (not great cigars) using my old trusty Zippo and I know if anything happens to my Zippo it will keep lighting no matter what. I have a few of the nice butane lighters and they seem to not hold up so well under rough conditions. Now the Z-Plus insert works pretty good; however, it seems to take a few clicks before it lights. Very odd.

Anyway, I am very interested in the new lighter Zippo, Zippo Blu (butane lighter), that is releasing in the USA sometime in August/September.  From what I have read is Zippo has already released a few in Europe with a Marlboro promotion and I have noticed a few of up on eBay for sale. I don’t know what the cost of this lighter will be in the USA but, I do know I want one. It comes with the Zippo Lifetime Guarantee. The Zippo Blu will have the traditional Zippo click with the flint wheel and from what the pictures shows on their site it looks like a torch flame but, I am just guessing by the look of the picture. It will be slightly larger than a regular Zippo lighter and the ends are more curved. Still a pretty good looking lighter and made here in the Good Ol’ US of A.

Check out their site, zippoblu.com and I am positive the Tobacco Barn will be carrying them.

‘nuff said.

These lighters are complete pieces of junk. They don't work worth anything and are way too expensive.

I'm a collector and the Zippo BLU is terrible. I bought one and that will be it! The case is terrible. The curve of the lid doesn't fit the curve of the case. The case is made of very thin metal. The lid keeps getting snagged on the insert when it closes. Some of the BIC lighters are better than this!

I also just bought a Zippo Blu and have so many problems with it I'm ready to toss it.

This is my first Zippo and I am thoroughly disappointed. It doesn't consistantly light, the flame is variable in height and after a few lights it will stop lighting altogether. It literally won't light at ALL.

The flint wheel insert also pops out of its slot. You then can't use it until you line it up and push it back in. The hinge has lateral movement (wobbly) allowing the lid to hit and scratch up the butane insert when you close it and the hing mount on mine has huge ugly divots.

I've contacted Zippo who finally responded just saying to send it in to get fixed, but I'm not sold that there is anything they can do to fix it.

I figured a $65 lighter from what I thought was a reputable company would produce a quality product, but now I'm looking at sinking more money into it by sending it back.

Ok, here is what I've learned. READ THE BLOODY DIRECTIONS BEFORE USING!!! That's why it gets such a bum rap. Everyone expects it to work just like the old wick ones. IT DOESNT!! You have to hold down the flint wheel to prime it for a bit before lighting, the loose fit of the tip case is there to make it easier for one handed operation. You have to occasionnaly tap it against a table upside down to get rid of some of the grit fro the flint. The fuel level is only readible when the lighter is upside down. Yeah, they are probibly overpriced, but they are good lighters, and the combination of a flint wheel with the jet makes for a long lasting ignition system, that has a magical little sparkle when it starts up. They are not the most intuitive design in the world, but they don't deserve the bum rap they've been getting. I'd hate to see it happen but I suspect because of poor exposure and reviews by people who don't know how to use them, it will end up going the way of the contempo, and the out-o-matic ashtray.

I've had a Blu lighter for about six months and have had to send it in for repair on three occasions and even when they sent me a brand new replacement, it still wouldn't work properly.

It often only works after five tries, making my thumb sore and hard skin has now formed on there.

I have totally lost all pressure in the lighter three times, leaving it totally useless and having to send it in for repair, fully fuelled.

I have three normal Zippo's and will stick with them in the future.

My Blu worked good for about 1/2 day, then the flame started to get erratic. It would be OK, then snuff out. I followed the directions, and the troubleshooting guide on their website, but it's just getting worse. You can clean it only so much by banging it, and pushing the gas lever. Now the flame is just like a Bic lighter with no air mixing, just a yellow flame. I removed the little tamper goop from the screw, and I'm going to dunk it into a small ultrasonic jewelery cleaner to clean the burner. I know unscrewing it voids the warranty, but there's no way I'm going to send it back every refill to have them clean it. If that doesn't work I'll mail it back to them, and tell them to keep it.

Try putting in 2 flints. Worked for me. Tried stretching the spring a bit but made it harder to re-assemble. Old Bic flints work great. They're longer.

i had all the same problems. I was bought it for xmas 2008. hardly used it because of all the problems.

Recently, i looked at Zippos problem solving.

I found, tapping out any old flint, and letting out the gas and 'trapped air' from the valve solved all my problems.

Its been nearly a week, and its worked perfect, every single time!

Hope it works for you.

Just got a zippo blu yesterday and I'm not happy with it. Same kind of problems as others.

Might light once out of 20 tries, but my thumb hurts from pushing down and flicking the wheel. I was expecting a reliable lighting lighter since it is a zippo. If it does light it sometimes goes out. The fuel discharge is inconsistent. And it's poorly put together. The tamper proof screw is at a slight angle so one side sticks up slightly from the body. The lid is slightly longer than the body so it overhangs it. Sometimes the lid doesn't close all the way.

I have tapped out any flint (taps are getting harder every time I try because I'm getting pissed). I have purged all the air through the valve. I used Zippo "premium" butane and filled lighter full. I have looked at Zippo's website troubleshooting and read all instructions so I DO know what I'm doing.

As far as I'm concerned, I think this lighter is a peice of junk and I hope I can get my money back for it.

if your lighter still won't light after tapping upside down lightly on the chimmney spray some caned air into the jet area of the lighter tap again ..spray again and you should have no problems after this cleaning
dust can clog the jet in butane lighters so like an automatic or semi auto pistol you have to keep it clean to keep it happy
