It’s Time for a “Boston Tea Party” Style Tax Revolt!
Congress May Increase the Federal
Cigarette Tax from 39¢ to $1.00/pack and
Raise the Tax on Cigars, Pipe Tobacco, Smokeless Tobacco and RYO by 156.4%
Action Needed by NATO Members and Customers:
Call Your U.S. Senators and Your U.S. Representative and TELL THEM:
1. These tax increases are unfair and constitute over taxation.
2. Black market cigarettes and tobacco products will flourish.
3. Criminals will break into stores and steal high priced
cigarettes and tobacco products.
4. These increases are a burden on lower income Americans.
A $.61/pack increase in the federal cigarette tax and a 156.4% increase in the federal tax on cigars, pipe tobacco, smokeless tobacco and roll-your-own tobacco to expand the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). This program should be funded by a broad based tax, not just a tax on smokers and tobacco consumers.
