Thompson’s Toro Toro & CAO Cameroon

Thompson’s Toro Toro Corona
Size: 6 x 44
Wrapper: Maduro
Country: Dominican Republic

According to Thompson’s description this cigar is supposed to be a good every day cigar to keep stocked in your humidor to bring every day pleasure. This cigar was given to me by a friend of mine… Well, I traded a cigar for it. I saw the label, though not a very impressive label, for some reason it just caught my curiosity. You know what they say about what curiosity did to the cat. Yes, it killed me. Before I lit the cigar up, I could tell by the wrapper this is a very cheaply made cigar. When I first lit the thing and took my first puff, my first initial reaction was, what the hell am I doing?! The ash was a black color and seemed to hang on to about an inch but, by then I decided I couldn’t torture myself any longer. I threw it out. I guess I was drawn to the cigar because, back when I was on an extremely tight budget and didn’t know the anything about cigars other than it was made of tobacco, I would buy the cheap Thompson brands. Some weren’t bad and others were. I have to say this Toro Toro just didn’t do it for me. I put it out and lit up a CAO Cameroon cigar.

CAO L'Anniversaire Cameroon Toro
Size: 5-1/2" x 55
Wrapper: Cameroon
Binder & Filler: Nicaraguan

This is one well constructed box pressed cigar. The tip has a nice sharp point and the body of the cigar is a nice smooth brown wrapper. I noticed two light brown blemishes or spots close to the tip of the cigar and a few dark brown freckles and one dark brown freckle at the foot of the cigar. Time to lit this bad boy up as my steak is grilling. After my first light and puff this cigar is very delicious. 100% better than the Toro Toro I just put out. The cigar has a slight uneven burn to it with white/gray ash. The ash is holding at about an inch in length. No problems keeping this cigar lit and smoking. The sweet flavor of the cigar seems to stick in at about an inch into the cigar. VERY TASTY! I not only enjoy the flavor of this cigar but, I love the feel of it in my hand because, the wrapper is so smooth and box pressed. I enjoyed this cigar right down to the very end. I recommend this cigar.

Do yourself a favor and stay away from Thompson. I am not in the business of bad mouthing anyone, but Thompson lacks the customer service that has driven me crazy for three years. Yes, you can find some good every day smokes at the site (Amigos, St. George, Thompson Corojo), but you end up paying for it over time. Example: 1) try getting off their mailing list. 2) try stopping shipments. It has gotten so bad that I called my credit card company tp stop the mysterious charges from Thompson.

If you want to find good every day smokes at a fair price go to JR's, Cigar International, and Famous-Smoke Shop.

Love the site. keep up the good work.

I ordered a special which included a bundle of Toro Toro cameroon churchills (the other 2 bundles were Thompson Unique churchills and V.S.O.P. churchills). The Toro Toro bundle must have been fresh out of the field. Horrible smoke that lights terribly and won't stay lit. I tried writing a review on them for their site, but they won't publish it.

To be fair to Thompson, the Uniques and the V.S.O.P. sticks were pretty decent. They're my favorites to take to the golf course.
