Cheap Cigar Friday

Like the title? I was inspired to use it in honor of the TobaccoBarn.com's new web page of inexpensive cigars and also for some crazy reason I decided to light up a cheap cigar. Who knows, maybe I will make every Friday, a Cheap Cigar Friday. I started to have flash backs of the times I used to work for big companies that had their Dress Down Friday, Haiwaiin Shirt, Casual Day or some lame name that allowed us to get out of dressing in our white shirts and ties. Anyway... The cigar I decided to light up is an...

Romeo y Julieta Habana Reserve Toro

First I want to Congratulate the New York Giants for winning the Super Bowl on Sunday. It had to be the best  Super Bowl I have seen in a very long time. Way to Go Giants! Maybe next year Patriot Fans; however, I still give New England praise for having an awesome run. We may not see that happen again for another 30+ years but, I have been wrong before. Romeo y Julieta Habana Reserve Toro Size: 6" x 56 Wrapper: Nicaragua Binder: Nicaragua Filler: Honduras & Nicaragua Wow! After first light and drag, I could really taste the oils from this cigar....

Happy New Year!

Written on 12/31/07   I wish you all a Happy New Year! I hope your celebration was fun and safe. I didn't do much to ring in the New year. I had planned on going to a New Year's Party but, decided not to because, my Brother who just came home from Iraq wanted to hang out with my Family and I. He did come over but, due to jet lag he fell asleep on the sofa. Oh well, at least I had two good cigars. My first cigar of the last day of 2007 is the Joya De Nicaragua Serie C....

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to you and yours! I am sitting back enjoying a nice Ashton VSG Illusion after finishing up wrapping gifts while watching the Packers get a beating from the Da Bears. That is all I am going to say about that game. At least the cigar the is delicious along with an ice cold bottle of Killian's Irish Red. The Illusion is 6.5 in length with a ring gauge of 44. The ash held on in a perfect round shape past an inch with a dark gray color. This cigar has a nice consistent smooth flavor and in my humble...

GO PACKERS!

Oh yeah! I loving how the Packers are doing this year even though I thought they looked a little shaky on both Offense and Defensive side of the ball, they were still able to pull off a win at 33 to 14 over St. Louis. I had to call my Brother-in-Law to offer my condolences as his Cowboys lost to Philly. I can't believe Pittsburgh lost to Jacksonville in Pittsburgh in the snow. What the heck is all that all about?! I do know one thing though, the Packers better bring their game on when they play Da Bears next Sunday,...

DaVinci Cigars Exhibicion D

Today is Veteran's Day so, lets take a moment to remember those who have served and are currently serving our Great Nation. God Bless Our Troops! This morning I watched the Packers spank the Vikings, a boring game unless of course you are a Packer Fan like myself. My cigar of choice after the game is the DaVinci Exhibicion D with a Tecate. I am not a big fan of the beer but, my Brother-in-Law likes it. Ah, what are you going to do.   Anyway, the Exhibicion D is a 6" x 54 cigar with a  beautiful dark brown smooth...

CAO Italia Ciao

Size: 5" x 56 Wrapper: Honduras Binder: Honduras Filler: Italy, Nicaragua, Peru First taste is VERY nice! It tasted to me like a chocolate/coffee flavor. Delicious. This is a perfect cigar for a gorgeous California October day with the temp being at around 80 degrees. I have kept this cigar in my humidor for about 6 months. The CAO Italia Ciao has a nice dark brown, smooth wrapper with the ash forming into a dark gray. Every puff is very tasty. I would rate this cigar at about a full but, not full enough to knock you on your butt. I don't think CAO...

Thompson’s Toro Toro & CAO Cameroon

Thompson’s Toro Toro Corona Size: 6 x 44 Wrapper: Maduro Country: Dominican Republic According to Thompson’s description this cigar is supposed to be a good every day cigar to keep stocked in your humidor to bring every day pleasure. This cigar was given to me by a friend of mine… Well, I traded a cigar for it. I saw the label, though not a very impressive label, for some reason it just caught my curiosity. You know what they say about what curiosity did to the cat. Yes, it killed me. Before I lit the cigar up, I could tell by the wrapper this...

Happy 4th of July!!!

I want to wish you all a Happy 4th of July and, remember that this day is more than just a day off from work. if it wasn't for the brave Men and Women who served and are serving in our Nation's Military we won't have a day off from work. Well, maybe we would but, I don't think we would have the freedoms that we are enjoying today. Feel free to write me what you did to celebrate our Nation's Birthday and which cigar did you light up? I am off to enjoy a BBQ with family, friends and a few dips...

Ashton VSG Spellbound

For my last cigar this evening, I decided to light up an Ashton VSG Spellbound, hand made in the Dominican Republic. The VSG is blended exclusively for Ashton by Carlos Fuente Jr. using 4 to 5 year old aged Dominican tobacco. Hmm... No wonder this cigar is so DARN DELICIOUS! Yes, not only do I enjoy the Padron but, I am also a Fuente Fan too.  Wrapper: Ecuadorian Binder: Dominican Filler: Dominican Size: 7.5 x 54 It started off with a nice powerful yet tasty coffee smooth flavor and mellowed out after a few puffs. The burn is uneven and the ash did hang...

Casa Torano Torpedo

Cigar: Carlos Torano Torpedo Size: 6.5” x 54 Filler: Nicaragua Binder: Honduras, Nicaragua and a blend of Central & South American Tobaccos Wrapper: Ecuador Connecticut Like I mentioned in my previous entry I decided to try the Casa Torano again and I wasn’t disappointed. For the price and it being a mild cigar, I enjoyed this cigar. It had a beautiful smooth wrapper with very few veins. Not that it really matters to me but, I just like to note the appearance of the cigar. The first taste of the cigar was very tart which smoothed out to a nutty flavor after a...

Happy Memorial Day!

And God Bless our Troops, who are serving, did serve and gave their lives for our great Country, Good Old US of A. I served in our Nation’s Proud Army but, that was a long time ago. Well, it seems like a long time ago to me. Anyway, I hope that you are not only enjoying a fine cigar with your favorite beverage but, also taking time to remember and pray for our fine Men and Women who are in uniform whether they are in the Military, Law Enforcement or a Fire Fighter. Since 9/11, I have come to really...

Carlos Torano Exodus 1959

I know, I know...  It has been a long time since I have updated my blog and my fans... er... Fan, "HI Aunt Betty!" has been waiting breathlessly for my next cigar review. Well, it is time to get my fat butt off of my comfy recliner and put away the remote. I mean football season is long over but, it has just begun with the NFL Draft this past weekend. YES!!! I love baseball too but, nothing compares to football in my humble opinon. Anyway, now for my latest, long overdue review... Cigar: Carlos Torano Exodus 1959    Made in Honduras Size: 6.5” x 54 Filler:...

Oliva Special G

Wrapper: Cameroon (Africa) Binder: Cuban-Seed Habano Filler: Nicaraguan Habano Size: 3.75" x 38-48 Wow! What a great little smoke! I got my hands upon this nice little sampler pack consisting of a few Serie G's and S's while attending the RTDA '06. This isn't my first Serie G, I have smoked quite a few already, because it is the perfect tastey little smoke for the moments when you don't have alot of time to enjoy a larger size cigar. The flavor is nutty, buttery and a tad woodsy. I find it so tastey I smoke it right down to the very end and...

CAO Vision Robusto

Robusto Size: 5" x 50 Made in the Dominican Republic Wrapper: Dominican Corojo Binder: Dominican Piloto Cubano (Cuban Seed) Filler: Blend of Dominican, Nicaraguan and Brazillian Excellent cigar! I got my hands on one by attending the CAO Party during the RTDA '06 in Vegas. Before I got a chance to light up this new stogie, I just had to have my picture taken with the every gorgeous CAO Flavorettes and the only I can say, is WOW!!! Until, I had my eyes fell upon the lovely painted ladies. ANYWAY!!!  I enjoyed this cigar with quite a few vodka, cranberry drinks. It was so hot...

Montecristo Churchill

Cigar: Montecristo ChurchillMade in the D.R.Wrapper: ConnecticutBinder: Dominican RepublicFiller: Dominican RepublicSize: 7.00" x 48 This is a cigar that was included within the gift box of cigars I received from C.A.R.T.'s Night Under the Stars with Cigars. I am sure you are quite familiar with the Montecristo cigar, if not that is okay. When I first started smoking cigars I wasn't at all familiar with the brand names adn this is basically why I write these so-called cigar reviews. Yes, you can pick up any cigar magazine that will give you a number ranging between 75 to 99 and tell you...

A Gencarelli Blend Vino 1972

Cigar: A Gencarelli Blend Vino 1972Hand Made in the Domincian Repulbic I received this cigar from the RTDA in July of 2006 it was part of the gift bag from Smoke. I purposely put one aside for a time, when I got back home, to give it a fair taste test. I didn’t know what to expect as I study the cigar’s label showing a bottle of wine and wine glasses with the word Vino (Wine) written at the top. The first initial taste I thought, “YECK!” it tasted like wine alright. Like really bad basement merlot. I always give any...

Chamuco Soul Robusto

Cigar: Chamuco Soul Robusto Made in Nicaragua Wrapper: 3 years aged Connecticut shade, Ecuador Binder: 4 years aged Sumatra seed, Ecuador Filler: 2 to 3 years aged Habano seed, Nicaragua I met the Gentleman who is starting up this line at the RTDA 2006 Event in Las Vegas and from what I remember I believe he has been making this cigar for a few years. It is the first time I have ever heard of this line and I was fortunate enough to be given a few samples. I am a sucker to try any cigar whether the name is well known or not. To...

Cojimar NU Orange with Tequila Liqueur

Cigar: Cojimar NU Orange with Tequila LiqueurMade in Dominican RepublicSize: 5” x 42 I did enjoy this cigar as a breakfast smoke with my cup of black (no cream and sugar for me) coffee while doing some administrative work on my laptop. It is a very good flavorful smoke and yet even though it states it is Orange with Tequila Liqueur, I didn’t think it tasted like an orange or even like tequila for that matter. I tasted more of a vanilla flavor. I wonder did they accidentally place the wrong label on this particular cigar. I like to have a...

Cigar Review – Jimenez #3

Cigar: Leon Jimenez #3Made in the DRWrapper: ConnecticutBinder: DominicanFiller: DominicanSize: 6.5 x 42 I enjoyed this cigar during the Cigars Under the Stars event hosted by C.A.R.T (California Association of Retail Tobacconists) and Pro Cigars at the Astor Classics Event Center.  The purpose of the event was to raise funds and awareness in the fight against California's Prop 86. If Prop 86 passes through on the November ballot, not only will it raise taxes on a carton of cigarettes, it will raise the taxes on cigars, pipe tobacco and smokeless tobacco another 88%, to a total of 135% in taxes. Now whether...
