The San Jose Mercury News recently reported on the backlash directed at the mayor of Belmot, CA (in Silicon Valley). It appears that the City Council is proposing to ban smoking in all public spaces, cars and apartments within the city limits! This is on top of the current California restrictions against smoking in bars and restaurants.

Evidently resident smokers are so upset at it, they have been flooding city hall with complaints; some even going so far as to compare the mayor, Coralin Feierbach, with Adolph Hitler and Osama bin Laden.

Hopefully smokers in that town will be able to prevent this travesty from happening.
